Self-Care Sundays | DIY At-Home Facials

There’s no better self-care ritual than a facial. But given the current worldly situations, we’re faced, a relaxing spa trip isn’t exactly feasible. So to those committed to healthy, glowing skin and to the calming experience that follows here’s how to recreate a pampering facial at home.

Cleanse:

Using clean hands, apply your cleanser at the chin and work upward in circular motions. With two fingers apply some pressure and massage into your pores avoiding any tugging and pulling at the skin. Then, with warm water wash away the cleanser and repeat the process. A double cleanse will initially lift away dirt and makeup, the second cleanse then cleans the skin and allows for all the amazing treatments to properly absorb into your skin.

Exfoliate:

Taking an exfoliating scrub, use gentle sweeping motions to move the exfoliant around your face. This will remove dead skin and leave it feeling super soft. Gentleness is key, as too much pressure can be damaging to your skin.

Steam:

A hot steam will open pores, soften the skin and increase overall circulation. Using boiling water, pour into a large bowl and add your favourite essential oil. Then drape a towel over your head and (with caution) lean your face into the steam.

Mask:

Now that your pores are open it’s time to nourish the skin with a treatment mask. Depending on how you want to target your skin, there are many options. Clay masks are ideal for drawing out impurities, hydrating masks can help with dryness while a multivitamin mask will revitalize the skin. Follow the instructions on the product and remove with water.

Tone:

Toner will equalise the skin’s pH after cleansing, exfoliating and masking and brings it back to its natural level. Apply the toner on a reusable cotton pad before sweeping over the skin.

Serum:

After toning, comes a treatment serum. Cater your serum to what your skin needs, whether that be anti-aging, dryness or acne. Apply from the centre of your face outward.

Moisturise

To seal in all the benefits, finish with moisturiser, drawing it from your face to the neck and décolletage. Massage the moisturiser into the skin to boost circulation and lymphatic flow but most of all to relax!
